I’m sure many people listen to music for good vibes, but many people, my humble self included, pay great attention to song lyrics. The messages conveyed in songs, especially when they match the sonic atmosphere and energy, are not only moving but can make your entire day, week, or even year.

Before Spotify came around, music lovers had to rely on lyric videos floating around YouTube and other streaming services (or simply Google search the lyrics while the music is jamming in the background).

Spotify higher-ups thought that bringing song lyrics onto the same page as the songs themselves would give more value to the users, and they were absolutely right. You can now have karaoke parties, learn the words of your favorite tracks, and sing along to entire albums on the Spotify app.

If you haven’t already figured out how to bring up lyrics on Spotify songs, I’m here to help you do it, so let’s get started.

How To See Lyrics On Spotify

You can view song lyrics on Spotify in songs that feature them. Lyrics are available on the Spotify desktop app and the Spotify mobile app, and the owners of both Free Spotify and Premium Spotify accounts can access them. Spotify lyrics are sourced from Musixmatch, a premier Italian company specializing in music data.

Opening Spotify lyrics is a breeze, regardless of which device you are using, although the process is a bit different for desktop and mobile versions of Spotify. All you need to do is open your Spotify app and start playing a song.

If you’re using the Spotify desktop app or Spotify Web Player, you’ll need to look for the microphone icon in the bottom-right of the screen. On the mobile Spotify app, it’s even easier to see Spotify lyrics; as soon as the song plays, you’ll get to see the lyrics roll down below the track control bar.

How to See Lyrics on Spotify Desktop App

Log into your Spotify account and choose the song that you wish to enable lyrics on. Unlike the mobile version of Spotify, lyrics won’t automatically appear on your desktop Spotify, so you’ll have to click on the microphone icon (located next to the “Queue” function to the right of the track control).

This will enable the lyrics screen, allowing you to use text lines as time markers, skipping to the parts that you wish to listen to.

The lyrics screen will remain open until you either shut the Spotify app down or tap on the microphone icon again. The latter only disables the lyrics and will take you to the track selection screen (meanwhile, the song will still continue playing).

How to See Lyrics on Spotify Mobile App

The first steps to watching lyrics on Spotify mobile app or the Spotify TV app are exactly the same as with the desktop version. Open your Spotify app, log in if you haven’t enabled automatic authentication, and choose the song you want to play.

Then, in the Spotify mobile app, tap the song once for it to start playing, and a second time to be taken to the song page. Scroll down, and you’ll see a section titled “Lyrics”. To open full lyrics, tap anywhere on this box.

The lyric navigation controls are the same as with the desktop app; tap on the line of text that you wish to fast-forward or rewind back to, and use swiping controls to move the lyrics screen up and down.

Using Lyrics on Spotify to Control Song Time

The Spotify lyrics feature is a bit more advanced than just a wall of text placed on the screen. Lyrics on Spotify are interactive, meaning that you can click on different lines to fast-forward (or rewind) the song to the moment when this particular part is supposed to be sung.

This is just one of the many reasons why using Spotify Lyrics is better than watching lyric videos or opening countless tabs to find them online.

Once you’ve opened the lyrics screen on your Spotify app, you may notice that some lines are white and some are black. The song lyrics that are white indicate that these lines have already passed while the song lyrics in black tell you that these parts are coming. By sliding the bar on the “Now Playing” section, the color of the lyrics will change as well depending on the slider’s position.

You can tap (or click if you’re using the Spotify desktop app) on the line that you wish to return or fast-forward to. This is much easier and more accurate than trying to pinpoint the exact second of the song lyrics manually.

Spotify Lyrics & Playlists

One of the things I like about Spotify the most is that the lyrics screen doesn’t disappear once your song is done. If you queued a playlist up for playing, the screen will be updated with the lyrics of the next song on the list automatically.

The same goes for albums and “Made For You” playlists; as soon as one song is finished and the next one starts (even if it’s shuffled), you’ll get to see lyrics on Spotify’s songs are updated with new text; the only thing that will remain the same is the background color of the lyrics screen.

FAQ

If you’re still unsure about how to enable lyrics on your Spotify app, please consult this section for answers to the most frequently asked questions.

How do I get karaoke on Spotify?

Spotify already features karaoke-style lyrics, sourced from the Italian firm called Musixmatch. Simply open the lyrics on your Spotify app, and the text will continue rolling as the song plays.

Can I see song lyrics on my Spotify mobile app?

Yes, Spotify song lyrics are available on all three Spotify app versions (desktop, browser, and mobile).

Why can’t I see lyrics on Spotify?

Some compositions and instrumental songs do not feature any lyrics, hence they will never be available. That’s why you can’t view Spotify lyrics. It is also possible for new releases not to feature lyrics yet but they may appear in the future.

Wrapping Up

Spotify became my go-to music-listening app long before it introduced the lyrics screen feature, but I must admit, it is absolutely amazing. Using it is simple and convenient, and it works on all devices, so there’s not much more to ask for. The only thing I dislike about it is that you can’t change the background color of the lyrics screen (yet).

Whether you’re using the desktop Spotify app or you’re on mobile, all you have to do to watch the lyrics of your favorite songs as they are playing is use the correct function; on mobile, just tap “Lyrics” below the track lyrics control bar while on desktop Spotify, it’s the microphone icon.

Have you ever been jamming out to your favorite playlist on Spotify, really feeling the music, when suddenly that little green bar stops moving and the tunes cut out? Annoying, right? There are few things more frustrating than having your Spotify streaming interrupted by unexpected pauses and buffering.

If your Spotify keeps pausing on you, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Many Spotify users deal with this pesky problem from time to time. The good news is, there are usually some simple troubleshooting steps you can take to get your music flowing again. In this blog post, we’ll break down the most common reasons why Spotify pauses and buffers, along with some tips to fix it.

Reasons Why Spotify Keeps Pausing

There are a few key culprits that typically cause Spotify streaming interruptions:

Poor Internet Connection
The most obvious and common reason Spotify keeps pausing is a slow, unstable, or congested internet connection. Spotify streams a constant flow of music data to your device. Any hiccups, lag, or bandwidth constraints with your home Wi-Fi network or cellular data service can disrupt that stream. Verify you have a strong, high-speed connection whenever using Spotify.

Bandwidth-Hungry Apps
Do you tend to have multiple browsers windows open while streaming Spotify? Or maybe you’re also running bandwidth-heavy applications like video chat or gaming services. When there’s too much bandwidth demand from different apps and services on your device, Spotify gets starved of data flow and pauses to buffer more music. Close out any unnecessary apps hogging your internet bandwidth.

Server Hiccups
Once in a while, the cause of Spotify buffering has nothing to do with your device or internet connection. Spotify’s servers also can occasionally glitch on their end, leading to music disruptions. Not much you can do when it’s an internal server issue, apart from trying again later.

Outdated App Version
Like any software application, the Spotify app releases updated versions periodically. Failure to update to the latest Spotify version can sometimes lead to performance issues that mangle music playback. Be sure to regularly check for and install app updates to stay current.

Extensive Ad-Blocking
Do you utilize an aggressive ad-blocker to limit promotional ads? That might inadvertently block crucial music streaming data. Try whitelisting Spotify under your ad-block settings. Also check your network firewall to ensure it’s not choking the data flows.

Excessive Downloads
Downloading Spotify songs or playlists for offline listening requires bandwidth too. If you’re actively downloading a queue of songs while trying to stream music, pauses can occur. Hold off downloading until you’re done streaming.

Account Limitations
In rare cases, pausing arises from limits imposed on free or ad-supported Spotify accounts. Premium Spotify subscribers get priority bandwidth allocation, so upgrading your account could help.

How to Troubleshoot and Fix Spotify Pausing

The key is pinpointing the exact culprit causing your Spotify streaming interruptions. Here are some general troubleshooting steps to uncover and remediate what’s disrupting your musical flow:

Check Internet Strength
Run a speed test of your Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to quantify bandwidth rates, latency levels and overall health. If speeds are low or the connection seems unreliable, address any network issues or switch to a stronger signal.

Inspect Bandwidth Usage
Use your device’s task manager to view all processes and apps consuming bandwidth in the background. As noted above, things like browsers, video apps, updates, games, etc. could be hogging capacity needed to stream smoothly. Close out unused processes.

Update the App
Go into your device’s app store, search for Spotify, and see if any pending app updates are available to install. Keeping Spotify fully updated often fixes performance glitches.

Toggle Online Mode
Open Spotify’s settings and ensure ‘Online Mode’ is enabled under ‘Playback.’ This may have gotten switched off, forcing Spotify into a problematic offline mode.

Reinstall the App
If all else fails, a fresh reinstallation of the Spotify app can work wonders. Uninstall completely, reboot your device, then download and reinstall Spotify as if new. Log back into your profile and see if that cleared up any lingering issues.

Contact Support
For recurring Spotify pausing that you just can’t seem to resolve on your end, submit a support request to Spotify describing your issues in detail. There may be an obscure technical glitch on Spotify’s servers only fixable on their end. Provide logs and specifics that can aid their troubleshooting process.

Embrace Offline Mode Temporarily
Since streaming hiccups typically stem from bandwidth constraints somewhere, you can sidestep the whole mess by intentionally switching Spotify into offline mode. Download whichever playlists or albums you want available and disable the need to stream from Spotify’s servers. Playback locally until you get your connection issues fully straightened out.

Investigate ISP Throttling
In rare cases, internet service providers intentionally throttle or deprioritize bandwidth for Spotify’s streaming music data. See if you can find any information on potential ISP throttling practices related to Spotify or multimedia streaming protocols. Switch ISPs or complain loudly to customer service if intentional squeezing of your Spotify data is confirmed.

Wrap Up
With millions of songs at your fingertips, interruptions to your Spotify streaming are especially disruptive. Diagnosing the exact points of failure along the pathway from Spotify’s servers to your ears is key to smoothing out the playback. In most cases, common issues like poor Wi-Fi, crowded bandwidth, outdated apps or temporary glitches can be easily corrected once identified. But even the occasional need to embrace offline mode is better than a musical experience plagued by repeated pausing. Hopefully with the troubleshooting tips above you’ll have your Spotify snags sorted out promptly. Now get back to singing along horribly off-key to all your favorable tracks!

With so many music streaming options available now, you may no longer need or want your Spotify account. However, Spotify doesn’t make it easy obvious how to fully delete your entire account permanently. While they allow you to temporarily deactivate it, deleting the whole thing for good requires jumping through some extra hoops.

If you’re ready to cancel Spotify and want all personal data and usage history erased from their systems, this guide covers the proper steps to completely delete your Spotify account.

Should You Delete Your Spotify Account?
Here are common reasons you may want to fully delete your Spotify membership and wipe the slate clean:

– You switched to another streaming music provider exclusively like Apple Music and no longer access any Spotify features.

– You want all listening history, saved playlists, personal data and account details permanently erased from Spotify’s records.

– Someone else gained access to your account without permission, necessitating complete closure.

– You’re no longer using any streaming music apps and want to cut ties with Spotify.

Before deleting, remember any playlists you created or liked songs saved within Spotify will be gone permanently once deleted. So be sure to export anything you want to keep first!

How To Permanently Cancel Spotify Premium

If currently paying for Spotify Premium, you must first end the paid subscription via:

1. Visiting the Spotify account management page while signed into your profile.

2. Navigate to the Your Plan section and select Change Plan.

3. Click Cancel Premium button to terminate automatic billing and paid access.

Your still accessible account will revert to the free ad-supported version. Now to delete everything…

Request Account Closure Via Privacy Form

Unlike most apps, Spotify purposefully buries complete account deletion options deep within their privacy policy site, requiring a formal request form submission.

Follow these steps to submit account removal request:

1. Go to Spotify’s Privacy Contact Form while signed into the Spotify account you want deleted.

2. For inquiry type, select My Data Request then choose to have your account closed permanently.

3. Enter your login credentials again when prompted to confirm account ownership.

4. Explain why you want your Spotify account deleted in the provided box.

5. Check your email after submission to access verification link to complete the erasure process.

6. Spotify will process the request within 10 business days, obliterating all personal data from their systems.

Once accomplished, you cannot rescind deletion or ever access that account’s data again. A whole new account signup would be necessary if you return to Spotify later on.

Key Takeaways

Having a direct path to Spotify account deletion empowers users tired of the platform to cut ties completely. Just remember:

– Cancel any paid Spotify Premium auto-renewing subscription first to stop billing.

– Utilize the privacy form to submit an account closure request for permanent data deletion.

– Account deletion is irreversible, erasing all history and playlists with no option to restore anything deleted later on.

While closing a Spotify account takes more effort than typical app deletion, submitting a formal privacy request eliminates all personal data from their records permanently. So for true Spotify abandoners, account termination delivers complete separation.

When you create a Spotify account, you will receive a username that you’ll probably have a hard time remembering. Spotify is automatically generating usernames for new Spotify accounts to help identify different users. While this auto-generated username helps Spotify discern your account from other ones, it won’t help your friends, followers, and potential fans at all. One of the first things most people try to do once they’ve set up their Spotify account is to change their username, but sadly, it’s unchangeable.

What you can do, however, is change your Spotify display name. Your username and display name on Spotify are not the same things, and today, I’ll help you learn the differences between them and ultimately how to change your display name so people can remember it more easily.

Spotify Username vs Spotify Display Name: What’s the Difference?

The main difference between your Spotify display name and your Spotify username is that you cannot change your Spotify username. It is randomly generated and essentially serves as your virtual Spotify ID. It won’t be of much use to you, but Spotify’s algorithms need it to perform thousands of different processes (recommending new music, creating personalized playlists, etc.).

As soon as you make a new account, assuming you haven’t used your Facebook account, your Spotify username will appear on all of your songs, playlists, and profile. Since it’s usually a string of random numbers and letters, most people want to change the name displayed on their Spotify content as soon as possible.

Your Spotify display name, on the other hand, can be changed and will effectively replace your Spotify username everywhere, including the Spotify app, your profile, playlists, songs, and wherever your username appeared.

So, Spotify username is random, while Spotify display name is not random.

How to Change Username on Spotify

The randomly-generated username Spotify provides for all its users cannot be changed. However, you can change your profile name by clicking on the settings icon, opening the “Profile” section, and editing the details. This can be done either on a mobile device or a desktop computer.

You cannot change Spotify usernames, but you can change your Spotify display name. The process can take about a couple of minutes and is extremely straightforward, but there are still a couple of things you should know before you start.

First of all, when you create your Spotify display name, you will be more visible to other Spotify users. While most people can’t guess who the person using the “xZ69aZ1aG” username is, your chosen Spotify display name, especially if it is your real name, will make it easier to find.

Second and more importantly, you can change your display name on your Spotify account at any time and on any device and on any platform, whether it be the Spotify app, the web player, or the desktop app. You can also choose to use your Facebook name as your display name. With that out of the way, let me guide you through the steps.

Changing Your Spotify Display Name on Desktop App

I recommend using this method if you are not in a hurry to change your display name because the navigation is a bit simpler. To change the Spotify display name on your desktop Spotify app or Spotify Web Player, you’ll first need to log into the account on which you wish to make the change.

Once logged in, click on the profile icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear, so select the “Profile” option. All you have to do is tap on the current profile name and type the text that you wish to set as your new display name.

Tap “Save” to confirm your decision, and this will be the name that will be displayed on your Spotify playlists, music, and profile.

Changing Your Spotify Display Name on Mobile/Tablet Device

The process to change your Spotify display name on mobile devices is almost identical but has a couple of extra steps. Regardless of whether you’re using an Android or an iOS device, you’ll need to log into your account and click on the “Home” icon.

Select “Settings” and then go to “View Profile” (it’s the first option on top). Click on the “Edit” button, and tap on the box that allows you to change the display name. Type the name you wish to use as your display name, and click “Save”. This is also where you can change your profile photo or profile picture.

Using Your Facebook Name

If you are about to create a new account on Spotify, you can opt to use your Facebook profile info and integrate it with Spotify. This will simplify and accelerate the process quite a bit, but more importantly, you will be able to use your Facebook username as your Spotify display name. The option to change your display name will still be available to you, in which case your new Spotify display name will replace the Facebook name.

What Will Happen to my Spotify Username After I Change my Display Name?

The only “consequence” of setting a new Spotify display name is that it will appear on all your Spotify playlists and other content instead of your Spotify username. The username will still exist and will be used by Spotify to identify you.

When it comes to your display name, Spotify makes it public, while your username is private, so there are no reasons to change the latter.

FAQ

Spotify usernames cannot be changed while display names can. If you’re still trying to wrap your head around what you can do about your Spotify name, let me answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

Can people see your Spotify username?

No, Spotify usernames are private. Display names on Spotify, however, are public. The only way to “hide” any personal information on Spotify is to choose a generic, non-revealing nickname.

Are Spotify username and display name the same?

No, Spotify usernames are randomly generated, unchangeable, and serve for authentication purposes while display names are user-generated and changeable.

Wrapping Up

It would be more accurate to describe Spotify’s username as a personal user ID rather than a “name”; a lot of the confusion would be avoided that way. It’s unchangeable, but fortunately, you won’t ever need to use it. You can log in with your email or phone number; the only reason why your Spotify username exists is to give you a “temporary identification” until you decide how the world will see you by choosing your display name.

The Shuffle feature on Spotify can be quite exciting at times, especially if you want a varied listening experience from time to time. I listen to all kinds of music genres, and when my playlist gets shuffled, I get to listen to the songs at the very end that I sometimes forget I included on the list.

However, I built my Spotify playlists in a certain order for a reason. Most of the time, I have songs that serve as good openers to get me in the mood for the remaining ones, and that’s when the Spotify shuffle play isn’t as welcome as usual.

If you want to Play Spotify music in order you want it to be played and want to learn how to turn off Shuffle on the Spotify app, you’ve come to the right place. Today, I’ll give you a rundown of the reasons why Shuffle play is active even when you disable it and propose simple solutions to fix this problem.

How to Turn Off Shuffle on Spotify

The toggleable Spotify Shuffle Play feature is only available to users who have a Spotify Premium plan. The Shuffle icon looks like two intertwined green arrows and enables/disables it. There are several workarounds for users who have a free Spotify account, such as using the desktop app or listening to customized playlists Spotify generated for each user based on their preferences.

As noted by Spotify’s support team, there’s no way to turn off the Shuffle Play feature unless you are using a Spotify Premium account. The Shuffle button will appear on all songs and playlists to Spotify Premium users next to the icon “previous track”, and tapping on it will either enable or disable it.

Does that mean that you’ll have to listen to playlists with the Shuffle mode on all the time? Not necessarily, as Spotify Free users have a few options to prevent their favorite tracks from playing in random order.

If you’re primarily listening to Spotify music on your Spotify desktop app, I’ve got some good news – the Shuffle mode can always be disabled or enabled, regardless of which type of account you have. On the Spotify mobile app, only Spotify Premium users can toggle the Shuffle mode off.

How to turn off Shuffle on Spotify: Desktop App

It’s not hard to see why most people primarily use the mobile Spotify app; it allows you to listen to music and podcasts wherever you are, which is especially convenient for long travels, commutes, and similar situations.

One of the main reasons why you should switch over to the desktop Spotify app is that it enables you to disable the Spotify shuffle mode, even if you made a free-to-use account. The process is remarkably simple, so let me take you through the steps.

Enabling the Spotify Shuffle Mode

When I first made Spotify, I remember all my songs playing in the exact order I put them in my first playlist. I did not even know that the Spotify Shuffle Play feature existed until I started experimenting with the controls.

If you recently made a Spotify account, you should be experiencing the same scenario. The Shuffle button will be on the track control bar at the bottom of the screen, although it won’t stand out too much since it will be gray, just like the rest of the settings.

The first button on the tab (two arrows crossing each other) is the Shuffle button. If you click on it, the Shuffle icon will turn green and there will be a small green dot beneath it to tell you that this setting is now active. Note that the shuffle mode will take place only after the song that is currently queued as the first to play ends.

Disabling the Spotify Shuffle Mode

Disabling Spotify Shuffle Play can be done in the same way you enabled it. Find the Shuffle icon on the track control bar, and simply click on it. It doesn’t matter if you just opened the Spotify app or if you are currently listening to music. The Spotify Shuffle Play will be disabled as soon as the icon turns gray again, and this will take place once the song that is currently playing finishes.

Spotify Shuffle Play on Recommended Playlists

Even if you didn’t make the Spotify playlists on your own and want to either enable or disable the Spotify Shuffle Play, you can do so on the Spotify Desktop app in the same manner as before.

Recommended playlists are made by other people (or artists themselves), but the playlist settings are tied to the profile, not the creator of the album or playlist. For instance, if you disabled the Spotify Shuffle Play before launching a recommended playlist, Spotify will remember your selection and keep it for future playlists (until you enable it again).

How to turn off Shuffle on Spotify: Mobile App

Things are a bit different on smartphones for Spotify Free users. Namely, you won’t be able to see the Spotify Shuffle button, but the feature will be permanently active. The only way to disable it and play songs in the order you want is to upgrade your Spotify account to a Premium plan.

Another viable option is to stick to the playlists that Spotify’s algorithms created for you. Even though these playlists may feature songs from artists you’ve never heard of, this is an excellent opportunity to discover new music and keep your listening experience fresh.

What are “Made For You” Playlists

Spotify wanted all of its users to have exciting music to jump into as soon as they make an account.

Many people don’t know the names of the songs they’ve heard on the radio or the artists that made them. More importantly, the Shuffle mode option is a Premium Spotify account exclusive, and to ensure even free Spotify users have a pleasurable experience, this streaming giant allows you to enable or disable the shuffle mode in certain playlists.

“Made For You” is a collection of tracks that Spotify algorithms compiled based on your preferences.

For new users, these recommendations are usually based on what’s popular in the region of each account. People who have used Spotify for quite some time have probably interacted with various songs by liking them, following them, or simply searching for them; this data is used to create playlists that Spotify assumes the user will be at least interested in.

Where to Find “Made For You” Playlists

The icon that will take you to the “Made for You” playlist will occasionally pop up on your Spotify home page, but to eliminate all guesswork, you can quickly find it in the Search bar.

Once you open your Spotify app, tap “Search”, and you will be taken to a page where a variety of genres will appear. The “Made For You” icon will usually be among the first from the top, if not “the” first. During the time of writing, my “Made For You” playlist is second in the first line, right after “Podcasts”.

Tap on this icon to enter another menu that features even more personalized options. Here you will see “Your Genre Mixes”, “Your Artist Mixes”, “Your Decade Mixes”, “Your Mood Mixes”, and the acclaimed “Your Time Capsule”, all of which are thoroughly personalized playlists with different tracks. What brings them together is that all are generated by Spotify, and more importantly, the “Shuffle Mode” button will be available for you to use whenever you want.

Enabling/Disabling Shuffle Mode in “Made For You” Playlists

Regardless of whether you’re using a free Spotify account or a premium one on a desktop or smartphone, the shuffle icon will be in its usual place in all “Made For You” playlists. Since you can’t access it on “your” playlists with a free account, this is the only way to disable the permanent shuffling option, which will, sadly, work only on “Made for You” mixes.

Upgrading to Spotify Premium

If “Made For You” playlists aren’t as exciting as you initially thought they’d be and want to disable the Shuffle Play feature, you can either start using the Spotify desktop app or upgrade your free plan to Spotify Premium.

The latter is fairly simple. Just tap Premium in the bottom right corner if you’re using the app. If you’re using the desktop app or Spotify Web Player, click on your profile name, and you will see the “Upgrade to Premium” option. Click on it, and you will be taken to another page where you’ll be able to see the pricing and benefits of different Spotify Premium subscriptions.

The Spotify Student is a mere $4.99 per month but you’ll need to prove that you’re actually a student of a US-based university. The second-cheapest option is Spotify Individual at $9.99 per month, followed by Spotify Duo with support for two accounts at $12.99. Spotify Family is the priciest option at $15.99 per month while giving you control over six unique accounts.

All Spotify Premium plans will bring the Shuffle Play icon to your songs and playlists, not to mention that you won’t have to worry about ads again. Furthermore, the quality of your music will be greatly improved and you’ll also get to download Spotify music files, meaning any song you want to enjoy offline.

FAQ

The Spotify Shuffle button isn’t available for all Spotify users, and I realize how confusing that can be. If you want to learn more about this issue, let me get to some of the most popular questions about Shuffle Play.

Why can’t I turn off shuffle on Spotify?
Spotify Free users cannot disable the auto-shuffle option unless they are using the Desktop version of the app or upgrade to Spotify Premium.

Why is my Spotify stuck on shuffle?
Spotify automatically enables the Shuffle Play feature on all playlists except “Made For You” mixes for users who own Spotify Free accounts.

Can you turn off shuffle on Spotify free?
The only way to turn the Shuffle mode off on a Free Spotify account is to use the desktop app. Note that when you switch back to your mobile Spotify, the playlists will still be in shuffle mode, and you won’t be able to disable this feature until you upgrade to a Premium plan.

Is Spotify Shuffle random?
No, Spotify shuffling songs is not a completely random process. It connects musical styles based on an algorithm for better results. That way, when you play Spotify songs, you don’t get a hectic mix but rather something that makes sense for your preference.

Wrapping Up

It can be a bit puzzling for newcomers to Spotify when they realize they have little control over their playlists. This is not the case for people who started out on the Desktop version of Spotify because they can always enable or disable Spotify Shuffle Play.

I warmly recommend checking “Made For You” playlists out, even if you just created a new account. If you’re not too thrilled with the selection Spotify handpicked for you, upgrading to Spotify Premium is the only way left to disable the Shuffle feature. You’ll get a free 1-month trial on all Spotify Premium plans, so it won’t cost anything to give it a shot.

If you’re mainly using your computer to listen to Spotify music, you’ll probably be thrilled to hear that the process of deleting playlists is quite simple on the Spotify desktop app.

As mentioned, you can always update the content of your Spotify playlists or make them private if you don’t want others to see them. If you still wish to delete some of your Spotify playlists, log into the profile you used to create them.

Open the “Your Library” section and select the playlist you want to delete.

What You Can and Can’t Do With Spotify’s Playlists

Now, let’s go over some of the things that you can (and cannot) do to your Spotify playlists.

You Can Delete Shared Playlists

Shared Spotify Playlists are slightly different from “regular” user-generated playlists because they can potentially amass quite a following. Even if you delete these playlists, people who are following them can still listen to the featured tracks.

To ensure shared playlists are deleted for good, you’ll need to manually remove each song. The easiest way to do it is to open the “My Library” tab, highlight all the songs you wish to delete, press the right-click with your mouse on the selection, and choose the “Delete” option.

You Can’t Delete Personalized Playlists

Curated playlists or “Made For You” mixes are playlists that Spotify automatically generates for its users to enjoy based on several criteria – artists that are popular in your region, your current interactions with Spotify content, the content your friends & followers on Spotify have liked, and more.

While these playlists may not always hit the mark, they’re a permanent installation of Spotify’s offering and cannot be deleted.

Set Playlists to “Private” If You Want to Hide Them

One of the reasons why I delete Spotify playlists as frequently is that I don’t want to spend too much time searching for the right mix, especially when I’m on my phone. However, some people may be shy or don’t want others to judge their tastes in music. If that’s the case with you, you don’t need to delete them; you can make them “private” instead.

To change the privacy settings of any playlist, open the app on your preferred device, select the mix you wish to change to “private”, tap on the playlist’s settings menu (three dots) under its title, and select “Make Private”. After doing this, private playlists will never be searchable nor will any of your followers or friends be able to see them on your profile.
